Admission Procedure
Anyone 65 or older may be admitted, although one need not be 65 to apply. In the case of couples, one spouse may be 62 or older, provided the other is at least 65. All applicants will be considered regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or disability, but must be able to live without assistance at the time of admission. There are seven steps to the admission procedure listed below.
Step One
Before deciding to apply for admission, please contact the Marketing Office at (919) 460-8095 for an appointment to see the campus and to talk with a trained staff member about policies, services and benefits of living at Glenaire.
You are encouraged to involve your family in this decision and to seek their advice and support. However, experience demonstrates that future residents who make this decision for themselves -- not pressured by someone else -- adapt more happily to life in a retirement community.
Among other items of information, you will receive a Disclosure Statement, as required by law, which addresses ownership and financial stability issues.
Step Two
If you are favorably impressed with our community, the next step is to become an active member of our "Future Resident" and "Ready List" Reservation Program. Special services and events are available to make it easier to learn more about Glenaire and to prepare the way for a decision and a move.
Step Three
When you have been notified of a vacancy and wish to apply for residency, you will sign the Residence and Care Agreement and pay a deposit, which is 10% of the entrance fee. This action reserves a residence, freezes the entrance fee, and gives the applicant priority consideration for access to services.
Step Four
Complete and forward to the Marketing Office at Glenaire the three forms --
- Application for Admission
- Personal Health History and
- Financial Statement
-- within thirty days. The Admission Committee of the Board of Trustees will review these documents confidentially.
Step Five
A medical history form is provided to be completed by the applicant's personal physician; the information must be reviewed by Glenaire prior to proceeding.
Step Six
Have a personal visit with our Director of Nursing and Social Worker and a screening visit with consulting physicians as deemed appropriate. We feel it is better to address adjustment issues head-on, rather than after admission.
Step Seven
The Admission Committee renders a decision promptly. If the decision is favorable, the applicant is assured a residence and an occupancy date, preferably not more than 30 days following formal acceptance. If more than 60 days has lapsed between formal acceptance and occupancy, an updated physician's form will be required prior to admission.
