5K and Mile

Overview

Glenaire Retirement Community is proud to present the Inaugural Glenaire 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, April 7, 2018.  The race will start and finish at the Community located at 4000 Glenaire Circle in Cary.

Most race entries include a swag bag, t-shirt, and pint glass. Food, beverages and entertainment will be provided post-race.

Race Benefactor

As a non-profit, Presbyterian-affiliated organization, Glenaire has never asked any residents to leave our community simply because they have outlived their resources.  In its 23 years, Glenaire has provided well over $3 million in financial assistance. In 2017, we expect to provide over $365,000 in scholarship funds. 100% of race proceeds will support this cause.

Entry Fees

All 5K participants will have the option to be timed, but recreational runners and walkers are welcome.  Although all finishers will be able to see their time at the finish, only competive entrants will be eligible for awards.

The 5K entry fee is $30 increasing to $35 on race day.

The 1 Mile Fun Run fee is $20 with no late fee.  Children under the age of 12 are free, but does not include a t-shirt unless you choose to purchase one for $10.

T-shirts are guaranteed to all those who register by March 18.  After that date, they will be “as available”.

Packet Pick Up and Same Day Registration

Early packet pick up will be hosted by Bond Brothers Beer Company on Thursday, March 30, from 5 – 7 pm.

Same day packet pick up and registration will open at 7:30 am at the start/finish line.

Course

This is a fast and rolling course through the neighborhoods near downtown Cary.  It takes a short tour on the Higgins Greenway. It starts and finishes at  the Glenaire Retirement Community. This course is certified by USA Track & Field. There will be two water stops on the course and each mile will be marked as well as the halfway point.

The 1-Mile walk will begin and end on the parking deck and will be an out-and-back course through the Community.

Awards

Awards for the 5K will be presented to the first three men overall, to the first three women overall and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions (both genders): 19-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-over.

Results

The 5K results will be posted at the race and also at www.runnc.com.  All results will count towards state records, national rankings and the Second Empire Series.

Post Race Party

All participants are invited to join us after the race to enjoy live music, free food and beer provided by Bond Brothers Beer.  Be sure to bring an ID.

We also encourage you to extend your day in Cary by attending the Downtown Cary Spring Festival.  This FREE Festival begins at noon and features live music, food trucks and Bond Brothers beer.  If you do not use your beer ticket at the post race party, you can use it any time during the Festival.

The Glenaire 5K Run Walk Roll is the fourth event in the Second Empire 2017 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
